Pissed off King
Suite No. 7, Sixth Movement:
HOW I'VE SURVIVED FASCISM SO FAR
Arrested for Hate Speech
Some traitor had criticized the king, so the king declared that he would designate any criticism of him or his beloved supporters as "hate speech." He also declared that he would make sure that people who use "hate speech" would be fired from their job and blackballed so that they would never be able to find another job. The king proclaimed that anyone who indulged in hate speech more than once would be sent to a concentration camp, and anyone who indulged in hate speech more than twice would be publicly executed. He named the new law "Three Strikes and You're Out."
I joined a large protest against the king and made a few public statements that might be interpreted as hate speech, so I was arrested.

On Trial

At the time of the protest, I didn't know that the king had signed an executive order that had enshrined "Three Strikes and You're Out" into law. Before my trial, my lawyer had informed me that ignorance is not a legally acceptable excuse for breaking any law.
"But an executive order isn't really a law, is it?" I asked my lawyer.
"It is now, apparently," he replied.
After the prosecutor interrogated me at the beginning of the trial, my lawyer asked me in front of the jury what I thought about the king. I replied, "I believe that he is a great king, perhaps the greatest king who has ever lived. During the protest, I was just expressing what I believed to be the truth about one or two of the king's new policies. At the time, I believed that I still had the right to free speech. I only found out later that the king had signed an executive order prohibiting free speech. If I had known about the prohibition, I would never have said anything. I would like to apologize to the king, whom I have always greatly admired. At the protest, I never intended what I considered my opinion to be a criticism of our beloved king."

Seven of Cups
Suite No. 7, Seventh Movement:
HOW I'VE SURVIVED FASCISM SO FAR
Green Dragon
Drones had destroyed two places where I had lived, so I decided to hang out in the enchanted forest for awhile. During my first night in the forest, I had a vivid dream of seven golden cups floating on a cloud. Symbols that seemed to present a potentially important choice appeared before me in each cup. (Perhaps the dream was vivid due to the lingering effects of the medication given to me during my stay at the Left-Wing Lunatic Asylum.)
A dragon nested in the golden cup at the bottom right side of the cloud. In my dream as I gazed at that cup on the bottom row, I suddenly became a dragon. I felt fierce and powerful and scary, which appealed to me since I had recently experienced a lot of chaos and vulnerability and powerlessness, and for a moment, I desired to remain a dragon.
Fighting with a Knight
Then I remembered that knights, to prove their prowess or to rescue damsels in distress, sometimes fight dragons. Since I am a knight, I suddenly felt repulsed by the idea of killing and eating a valiant knight. "I don't think so," I thought.
Great Warrior
So I gazed at the second cup and could see a victory wreath jutting up over its brim. I imagined myself as a valiant warrior who is celebrated and respected for his ability to vanquish every adversary.
Savage Warrior
But then I realized that battles often devolve into little more than pure savagery. In my dream, I suddenly saw myself as a brutal, heartless ogre, scarred by savagery, who revels in killing or harming others. I looked more closely at the cup and noticed a skull etched into the cup's surface. "No thanks," I thought.
Riches
So I gazed inside the third cup at the bottom of the cloud and noticed a pile of jewels and other riches. Since for many people riches mean freedom, that choice at first appealed to me, but then I remembered that the rich often become obsessed with accumulating more wealth at the expense of everyone else while at the same time they grow more and more fearful of losing it all.
Funny Dictator
Then in my dream, I imagined becoming a dictator who had to spend most of his time and energy pleasing the super-wealthy because he needed their support to remain in power. He constantly violated the law to satisfy the expectations of oligarchs and plutocrats and kleptocrats. If he let down his wealthy supporters, he might end up in prison or seriously harmed in some way. The baubles in the cup suddenly seemed more like bubbles. "Naw," I thought.
Grounding Spiritual Energy
Then I gazed at the fourth cup in the bottom row. Inside the cup stood a castle. I suddenly imagined a king with a large golden pentacle on the crown of his head. The king also grasped a pentacle at his chest, and as he sat on his throne, each foot rested on a pentacle. In my dream I thought, "That looks odd. Is he miserly--trying to hold on to his wealth and power?" Then I thought that maybe he is channeling spiritual energy down through his crown and through his heart and then grounding it in the earth in order to manifest positive energies--like harmony and abundance and peace and love and magnificence--for himself and the community. "Yeah, that's for me!" I thought.
Fiery Emperor
But then I imagined an emperor in a fiery, molten world. He had dominion of himself--his thoughts and feelings and desires--and he also had dominion of his incessantly changing realm. He experienced renewal often in response to the many changes, and he also seemed to manifest and reveal internal and external rebirth--like a perennial rebirth of spring in the world. Unlike the king I imagined, the emperor was not surrounded by a community but by molten lava and poppies. He seemed more like a powerful force of nature, but he also seemed more alone--almost like he lived in a tower above humanity--but also more in tune with the powers and forces of nature. "I don't know. Maybe this is the best choice, at least so far," I thought.
Death and Transformation
The figure in the middle cup whose head was covered by a pink sheet seemed so anonymous and uninteresting that I shifted my gaze to the cup above the middle figure's left shoulder. A golden snake seemed to writhe around in the golden cup. "The snake sheds its skin and is often a symbol of rebirth," I thought. "It's also associated with the kundalini, which causes an expansion of spiritual awareness."
"I like it!" I thought. Then I remembered that profound spiritual transformation can be like death--the death of the personality.

Transformed into a Goat-God
"What if I transform into something that people don't understand, or something that scares them. People tend to avoid or attack anyone who is different. People who are attracted to you might need to overcome psychological obstacles before they can allow themselves to get to know you. "This might not be my best choice, at least not at the moment," I thought. Then I thought, "This must be a lucid dream. I don't usually have complex thoughts when I dream." That confused me. I wondered if I was dreaming or hallucinating.
Rainbow Goddess
Then I gazed at the cup on the upper right side of the cloud. A blue, severed head seemed to be floating above the golden cup. That was scary, but I soon realized that the head was dreaming, like me. Suddenly a Goddess with rainbow wings appeared before me.
"When you experience all the colors of the rainbow and the subtle energies of the physical realm and the energies of the subtle spiritual dimensions, you will know the Many in the One, the One in the Many, the unity underlying all of creation," she assured me. Then she smiled and disappeared in the flowers. "Nice!" I thought.
The Star: Opening the Heart
Then I envisioned a woman kneeling by a pond who was pouring water onto the earth from a jug in one hand and water from a jug in her other hand into the pond. A large star hovered above her head.
"Meditation and ritual help you attain higher awareness," she stated. "Eventually you open your heart and know the oneness of all creation, and you direct your light and energy to help people and creatures of the earth to heal and grow. You live in service."
"That's beautiful," I thought. "But that would require a lot of sacrifice. Am I ready for that?"
Apollo Playing the Harp
Then I returned my gaze to the central figure within the cup in the middle of the cloud. The person, male or female, seemed to be radiating light. Even though I couldn't see the person's face, I somehow knew that he or she was deeply spiritual, and I remembered that the color pink symbolizes the highest spiritual energy of the heart. The God Apollo suddenly appeared. He smiled and said, "When you open your heart, you can experience the beauty of sacrifice and the vision of harmony. You can feel the beauty of the arts and nature and other people. You can revel in the oneness of creation."

Knight of the Sun

Suddenly I transformed into a knight of the Sun. A golden pentacle glowed like the sun above my head and a golden six-rayed star glowed in my heart. "This might be my best choice. I can live a life of service with an open heart," I thought.

Traitor

Then I envisioned a traitor hanging upside down from a cross in the public square. "That sacrifice might be my fate if I live righteously with an open heart, but I can bear that if I have to," I thought.

Craftsman

Then I envisioned a craftsman creating golden pentacles near a castle. Gold symbolizes spirit and the five-pointed star reveals the subtle elements of Earth, Air, Spirit, Water, and Fire in balance within an eternal circle. The elements reveal the energies of the triplicities of the zodiac and the ruling planets--all the energies represented by the Tree of Life. I would happily do that--if that be my fate."

Sleepy Faery

ICY Agents in the Enchanted Forest

As I was strolling through the enchanted forest, I encountered a sleepy faery. Not wanting to disturb her, I tiptoed away.
From a distance, I noticed cold-blooded monsters grabbing the sleepy faery and tossing her into a box.
"What on earth are you doing?" I exclaimed.
"We are ICY agents who are detaining illegal immigrant faeries," one of them replied. "If you interfere, we will arrest you and toss you into a cell. Do you understand why you shouldn't get in our way?"
"I guess I see why," I shrugged. "But why are the faeries considered illegal?"
"They immigrated here illegally from another part of the forest," one ICY agent replied. "We must deport them all!"

"Are you going to eat the faeries?" I inquired.
"Don't interfere!" the monsters shouted. "If you want to see what happens when you get in our way, just keep talking! Why don't you just keep walking instead?" one of them sneered.

Detained Ogre

So I just kept walking. Soon I came upon what appeared to be a prison camp. Surprisingly, a guard let me in when I told him that I would like to visit the prisoners. The first inmate I encountered was a huge ogre.
"Hey, Mr. Ogre, sir, why are you in here--if you don't mind me asking," I asked politely.
The ogre grunted. "One day, I was just minding my own business and an ICY agent detained me. I wasn't hurting anyone or breaking any law," he complained. "I have lived in the enchanted forest for most of my life. I have always been a productive citizen. Granted I look different from most creatures in this forest and I remain solitary for the most part, but I wasn't hurting anyone or committing any crimes. I was just cleaning up my part of the forest when an ICY agent grabbed me with its talons and carried me here and threw me in this cell without any due process."
"So this is a detainment camp," I mused.
"More like a concentration camp," the ogre muttered. "They give me just enough food to keep a squirrel alive. They're working me to death. They treat me like a slave but keep saying that work will set me free. I'm not usually violent, but one of these days, I'm going to crack some skulls and escape from this hellhole."

The old woman looked me over, then replied, "Right you are, young man. I am from a city in a distant part of the realm. I once lived in a comfortable home and always had enough to eat, but those heartless monsters in congress and the administration made it almost impossible for old people like me to continue getting Social Security benefits. Due to some stupid mistake, I lost my benefits. Of course, they gutted health care benefits as well. I suffered a terrible illness, which made me totally broke, and I soon became homeless."
"That's truly horrible," I replied sympathetically.

"ICY agents profiled me. They said that I 'look like a dissident.' They claimed that I 'show indicators revealing that I might be an insurrectionist or a terrorist.' Look at me. I'm just a fool. Do I look like a terrorist to you?"

"No, I'm definitely not a criminal," he replied. "I was just protesting about how the military is policing our city streets. That is illegal, but the king doesn't follow the law anymore. He just wants to consolidate power. He wants to dominate the people of this realm. They arrested me for being unpatriotic and anti-this and anti-that. I'm just against the military going to war against its own citizens when instead the military is supposed to protect us from foreign adversaries."

He didn't have any identification, and he certainly didn't have any probable cause for arresting me. Anyone could see that I was just peacefully protesting."

"We have the privilege of working out in the open as chattel slaves. They force us to work from sun up to sun down and feed us soup with a few peas in it every night," one of them complained.
The air was heavy with smoke, which made me cough. "Why is there so much smoke in the air?" I gasped.

"I approached three members of the military on the streets. One of them had just shot a protester who had shrilly asked why the soldiers were not ashamed of themselves--an outburst that was annoying but not illegal. The protester, moreover, had not made any attempt to harm any of them. I informed the soldiers that as a knight I am responsible for upholding law and order and that it was my duty to arrest the shooter. The three soldiers pointed their rifles at me and told me to back off. I told them again that I was upholding the law--they were not policemen and their use of violence against a peaceful citizen was illegal. I reminded them that the presence of the military had not been requested by the governor or the legislature. I told them that The Posse Comitatus Act outlaws the willful use of any part of the Armed Forces to execute the law unless expressly authorized by the Constitution or an act of Congress. The statutory exceptions include legislation that allows the President to use military force to suppress insurrection or to uphold federal laws. No such exceptions existed in that particular situation. I emphasized that the protest was peaceful and that an insurrection was obviously not occurring and that the protesters were not breaking any federal laws. I reminded them that assembly is integral to free speech and that both are protected by the constitution. I also suggested that it was their duty to disobey unlawful orders. After I was done speaking, the three soldiers threw me down to the ground and arrested me for aiding and abetting an insurrection and for being unpatriotic and anti-capitalist and anti-Christian and anti-this and anti-that. Then they sent me to this hell-hole concentration camp without due process."

Disturbed, I moved to the next cell. "Let me guess," I said to the prisoner, "the military profiled you due to your skin color and concluded without any evidence that you are an illegal immigrant. Then they sent you here without due process. I would even wager that you are actually a citizen. Am I right?"
"Yes!" the prisoner exclaimed. "But you better be careful, my friend. They sometimes let visitors in here and then lock them up. The more prisoners they have, the more the government pays them with your taxpayer dollars."
"Oh," I sighed. "I understand now why they let me in here, and now I see why this agency is called ICY."
